Captain Thomas McKendree Dodd

Thomas Dodd left Emory and Henry College after one year to enlist in the Confederate Army.  He was in the 29th Tennessee Infantry, Company F.  He rose to the rank of Captain during his four years of service.  His unit fought in some of the major battles of the Civil War including Chickamauga, Chattanooga, Atlanta, Franklin, and Nashville.

William C. Dodd, his brother, also fought for the Confederacy.  He survived a severe wound at the Battle of Chancellorsville.  He had graduated from Emory and Henry College before the war, and he became a respected educator after the war.
