John Lewis Dunn (1842-1863) was awarded a "Medal of Honor" for gallant and meritorious service. He was a 2nd Corporal in the 9th Kentucky Regiment Mounted Infantry which was also called "The Orphan Brigade." He fought at Shiloh, Vicksburg, Baton Rogue, Hartsville, Murfreesboro, Jackson, Jonesboro, and Chickamauga. He died from a wound at the Battle of Chickamauga, and he was buried in the Field Cemetery (Breckenridge) at Chickamauga, Georgia. 1st Corporal Eli Edward Dunn (1837-1864), his brother, also served in the same unit. He died in the Battle of Jonesboro, and he is buried in Cleburne Confederate Cemetery at Jonesboro, Georgia.
