James Alsop "Top" Redding enlisted as a private in Company A, Gano's Cavalry, Second Brigade, Morgan's Division in 1861. He was captured in Morgan's Ohio and Indiana Raid in1863. He spent two years as a prisoner of war, and he returned to Kentucky after the war.
