John Javie Allen joined Company B of the 1st Alabama Infantry. This occurred on August 10, 1861 in Choctaw County, Alabama. He was captured at Island 10. Later, he was paroled at Vicksburg. His unit was reformed as the 54th Alabama Infantry. He fought as a member of the unit for the remainder of the Civil War
