Seaman Thomas Horner

Thomas Horner alias Thomas Huntley enlisted as a seaman for one year in the United States Navy at New York, New York on October 10, 1862.  He was assigned to the Gunboat New Ironsides.  This vessel participated in the blockade of the Confederacy.  It bombarded Charleston, South Carolina on January 31, 1863.  It bombarded Fort Wagner, Fort Gregg, and Morris Island on July 14, 1863.  It bombarded Fort Sumter on August 17, 1863.  Thomas Horner was discharged on October 30, 1863.  He reenlisted on November 26, 1863.  He was assigned to the Gunboat Vicksburg which aided the blockade of North Carolina.  He was honorably discharged on November 27, 1864 in Baltimore, Maryland.  

Thomas Horner was born in Tuckerton, New Jersey on October 14, 1832.  He married Elizabeth Fothergill in New York on September 22, 1863.  They lived for many years in Perth Amboy, and he died on January 5, 1918.
